CHANGING LANES: Giving homeless a voice to be heard - NEWS - The Hingham Journal - Hingham, MA HINGHAM I have a friend named James Shearer. Born in the south, we both prefer the north. As fourth graders we were both voracious readers who won prizes for how much we read. As teens, we both found a release in writing that helped us transcend difficult circumstances. Life has been hardest for both of us when we were suffering writer’s block. Today, we are both columnists and take great joy in that privilege. We have some differences. I went to prep school and James grew up in the projects. James is a black man and I am a white woman. James used to be homeless. I used to be wealthy. But really, we’re both just people.
